Fit Club: Blunt Force a modern old-school gym experience
Denver Post: 2/12/2013:
Membership has these privileges: Access to a 9,000-square-foot gym with a boxing ring. Blunt Force is not an open gym but does provide boot-camp classes to the public, along with yoga — a good yin-yang right there — as well as private training. They also offer fighter training in mixed martial arts by invitation (BluntForceMMA.com).
The class I took: was a Sunday-morning yoga class with teacher Sarah Haubert, and it was notable for going well beyond the usual sun salutations and actually working me into a sweat, as well as offering great wake-up music (what's not to like about a yoga series that starts off with Eminem?).
This club is for: those who long for the feel of an old-school gym — cavernous space, squishy floor, boxing ring in one corner — that features modern approaches to fitness.
Know before you go: Sign up for classes ahead online; boot camps are offered nearly hourly 6 a.m.-10 a.m. weekdays, more through the afternoon, and several on Saturdays. There also are "bridal" boot camp and boxing classes aimed at getting gals ready for the big day, as well as a Tough Mudder-specific boot camp.
Amenities: Big parking lot, restrooms and showers, cubbyholes for your stuff. Classes are limited to about 10 at a time, so you will always get to know your workout mates. Blunt Force was founded by boxer and trainer Tiffany Coolidge, who has assembled a team of trainers with an impressive collective background of military training and personal tales of struggles with being overweight, so check out their bios to find a good match when you're choosing a class.
The bottom line: No one is applying make-up or checking to see if their outfit matches their shoes at this place — it's the real deal in terms of getting in and working up a sweat. Before the yoga class I peeked in on a boot camp and saw a half-dozen people climbing ropes, running sleds and doing leg lifts — not one stopped moving for a second.
The real bottom line: Yoga classes and unlimited boot camp classes cost $175 per month, no contract. You can also buy punch cards for either — yoga drop-ins cost $15 for 5 classes or $120 for 10; boot camp punch cards $90 for 5 sessions or $150 for 10. Drop-in rates for boot camps are $10 for 25 minutes and $20 for 50, or $20 for a yoga class.

Blunt Force Training Center Grand Opening
Friends, we made it! The Blunt Force Training Center is now open and operational. The good news is we have more room, almost 9,000 square feet, and we’re now centrally located just off I-25 and 23rd, on the north side of Sports Authority Field.
I’m also excited to introduce you to our new trainers, which means we have increased our number of bootcamp times by 500%! We’re expanding our services to provide a full-size boxing ring, punching bags, yoga, massage therapist and more.
The bad news is the climbing ropes are taller, the sled runs are longer and we have more room on our custom-built pull-up bars to maximize your pain and results.
Though we’re already training at the new facility, I hope you’ll also attend our Grand Opening on Saturday, June 9, anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. You should also bring any friends or co-workers to show them how you start or conclude your days. There, they can feel how heavy the sledge hammers are, or how big the tractor tires are or what a bear crawl looks like.
Thanks for being a part of this team and hope to see you soon!
